Injury-focused law firm Kisling, Nestico, & Redick may dominate the court rooms of Ohio, but this February they also dominated the icy depths of Portage Lake. The Ohio-based law firm participated in the 16th annual Portage Lakes Polar Bear Jump this year to support local foodbank Akron-Canton. The firm’s participation was part of its philanthropic effort to support Ohio children, which is a year-long campaign the firm is calling KNR Cares About Kids.
The campaign is designed to help kids from all over Ohio reach their full potential and is aimed at helping struggling families. Part of that struggle is the quest for available food. Akron-Canton Foodbank supports this quest by feeding over 100,000 starving families. This is not something that it can do alone, which is why the Polar Bear Jump is a such a great event. The jumpers receive pledges that go to support the food bank.
The event was created back in 2004 by founding members Jeff and Debbie Fulkman and Kelly and Heather Pariso. The goal of the club was to raise money for the foodbank which it has been able to do. The original event had 70 jumpers but this year’s turnout was around 800. KNR’s pledge goal was to raise $25,000 for Akron-Canton and both partners and staff venture the frigid waters to do so.
