It felt like ages ago when I first got my start here working as a corrections officer for a prison in Texas. All those years ago, the jail was barely half full and me and my fellow officers had very little trouble maintaining order. Today is a much different story, our facility is overcrowded with inmates crammed in cells and the yard and dining hall filled to capacity. With everyone within such close range of each other, trouble can happen in a blink of an eye. In order to keep the facility safe for all, we have turned to the latest technological advances to combat crime.
Securus Technologies developed a piece of technology that has changed how officers conduct business in a busy jail. Instead of having to sit in a call center and listen on a dated call monitoring system as the inmates talk on the house phones, the system does the work for us. Securus Technologies created a monitoring system that is run by the LBS software, and can scan calls and pick out verbiage on things like drugs, weapons, gang related topics, or any contraband. Officers get the alert and take action swiftly.
To give you a better understanding while we feel so confident working with Securus Technologies, you only need to look at how productive this system has been. Not only it is helping officers maintain order in dangerous prisons, the system has already been placed in well over 2,525 facilities. Headquartered in Dallas, the CEO of the company says his employees work at the single objective of helping make the world safe.
The way things work now in our facility is if an inmate thinks they can talk to their family about them sneaking prescription drugs to our jail in the visitor center, we are going to be ahead of that transfer and then confiscate everything.
